No other precious stone is so closely associated with Chinese culture than Jade. In fact, in China it enjoys widespread adoration. According to the Confucian philosophy the Chinese identify many properties in Jade which signify noble-mindedness in mankind.

The grain is similar to the structure of wood, which is why it is also described as "wood grained jade". In Chinese "Mu" means "wood", while "Yu", as well as meaning "fish", also means "jade". Maybe this is where the description "wood grained jade" also originates from.

The proportion of maghemite (FE2 O3) gives the stone a partly magnetic effect - even if this is only negligible.

The proportions of trace elements - such as Ca, Mg, P, Zn, I, Sr, Mo, Se, Be, Co etc. - are said to have an antioxidant effect. It is for this reason that drinking vessels are also manufactured in China using this material.

Tea in vessels made out of Mu Yu Jade is said to stay fresher for longer. The minerals released into the water are said to enhance the water to the quality of that found in mineral water. It is for this reason that top quality drinking vessels in China are manufactured using this material.
